Only a few kittens left until next spring! Make this holiday season the BEST YET by adding one of these sweeties to your family!
Kitten Personality 101
I get asked pretty frequently about kitten personalities, so I thought it would be helpful to try and elaborate more on that here. I am certainly not claiming to be an expert and what follows below are only my observations. As with anything, there can be exceptions to the rule but I have yet to see it. The ‘rule’ being, that Maine Coons are the silliest, sassiest, chattiest, friendliest, most out going, playful, best pet you’ll ever have cat!
In my opinion, as kittens grow, their personalities go through several different developmental stages.
The first stage is from about 3-5 weeks of age. During this time, their main interest is in their mother and siblings. They will acknowledge you and see what you are about but they would much rather play with one another.
Stage 2 is usually from about 6-8 weeks, where they become much more interested in their environment. During this time they love to explore. EVERYTHING is new and scary and fun and WAY more interesting than a person. Curiosity is through the roof, they are on high alert and may come across shy or flighty. Not to worry though, once they feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings, they have entered the final stage.
Stage 3, now YOU are far more interesting and worthy of their time and attention. Be ready for long couch snuggles, extended play sessions and a new shadow under your feet!
I will say though that you should be prepared for your kitten to regress some as they transition to their forever home. For a lighthearted post on what you can expect when adding a Maine Coon kitten to your family, check THIS out.

If You add a Maine Coon Kitten to Your Family
If You add a Maine Coon Kitten to Your Family
By: Sugar Island Maine Coons
If you add a Maine Coon Kitten to your family,
you will have hours of entertainment and a friend for life.
When you first bring them home,
They might be a little shy,
So you distract them with a toy.
Toys always get their attention,
and they will run, pounce and swat.
Playing will help them trust you,
So they’ll probably let you pet them.
When you pet them they might roll on their backs
and ask for a belly rub.
When you rub their belly, they’ll think you are playing,
So they’ll nibble your fingers.
Nibbling will remind them that they’re hungry,
So they’ll meow to let you know they’re starving and you’ll get them some food.
Wet food is their favorite and they gobble it all up.
Eating will make them thirsty, they love water especially when it moves
So they will paw and paw and make a huge mess.
While you’re cleaning up,
They will see a huge bug flying outside.
This will make them chatter and jump.
Jumping reminds them how much they like to be up high,
So they’ll climb the furniture, hop on the table
or even scale the cabinets.
While they’re up there they might take a nap
Sleeping is one of their favorite past times.
You’re tired too, so you lay down on the couch.
Seeing you in a vulnerable position may encourage them to come and snuggle or nibble at your head,
they may even groom your hair.
When you get up there is hair on your clothes and the couch,
So you decide to get the vacuum out.
The vacuum will startle you’re little kitten,
And they might feel shy again.
You remember that playing made them feel comfortable,
so you grab their toys and try to entice them.
Playing will remind you of how you felt when you first brought them home
And chances are if you add ONE Maine Coon kitten to your family
You’ll want ANOTHER ONE to go with it.

The Maternity Suite
We want our Queens to feel as comfortable and secure as they possibly can during delivery and after. That is why we have chosen to use these pet play pens as our maternity suites. They are made from a durable, waterproof oxford cloth that is easy to clean, with a removable bottom for quick washing. There is also a breathable mesh that keeps the air flowing and also provides a convenient way for us to keep an eye on things. Before delivery a water proof, quilted whelping pad will be placed over the bottom. Not only does this provide mom with comfort during her delivery process but also helps aide in the cleanup afterwards.
Following delivery, the happy new mom and babes will be transferred into their box. This helps to keep the ‘swimming’ babies safe (you wouldn’t believe how well they can travel), all in one place and out of mom’s other necessities. She has everything she needs just a few steps away. We us equine pine pellets for litter, a safe and natural product for her potty needs. Fresh clean water and plenty of food to provide her with all the nutrition necessary to keep her babies growing healthy and strong. You might be wondering however, why there is no food dish pictured? This is because we have decided to use paper plates for mealtimes. Once momma is finished we just discard the plate, keeps things nice and clean!
We just love the ease and convenience these suites provide for our Cattery and the Queens seem pretty happy about them too! Momma and her kittens will stay in the suite until they graduate to the nursery.
Spring is here and so are kittens!
Spring is officially in full bloom here in Missouri. The Redbuds and Dogwoods were amazing this year and there is new life all around. It is so refreshing to see all the green growth sprouting forward. Spring has also brought new life to our cattery in the form of many new kittens! We couldn’t be more blessed <3 If you are looking to add a kitten to your family this Spring/Summer, we hope you will consider Sugar Island Maine Coons.
